It is the year 3372. You are flying aboard a colony ship to a near settlement in a star system closeby. After a long journey your ship is preparing to dock into a pre-existing space station around the planet's orbit. The spacecraft automatically flashes two colored lights on its side, a red one on the left and a green one on the right, because a guy from a country that no longer even exists, living a millennium and a half ago, decided that steam boats should do that as he was fond of those colors.

For those wondering what left and right even mean in space, here you go. Here is a (very crude and simplified) drawing of Crew Dragon I made showing where the astronauts are facing inside while docking at the space station. Green is on the right-hand side of the astronauts. If ISS doesn’t see this orientation out their windows lined up with the correct parts of the docking ports, they know something is wrong.
