Baloo Is Critically Ill — We Need Your Help With His Emergency Care Baloo is currently fighting for his life, and we are asking our community for help with his emergency veterinary treatment. A few days ago, Baloo suddenly collapsed at the refuge and had severe difficulty breathing. He was taken to an emergency clinic, where X-rays and examinations revealed a serious infection, a large amount of pus in his abdomen, and a collapsed lung. The veterinary team drained the infection and started him on several antibiotics. Today, his condition deteriorated again. On the way to the clinic, Baloo stopped breathing and his temperature reached 106.9°F (41.6°C). The veterinary team immediately began intensive cooling and emergency treatment. After approximately three hours of critical care, his temperature came down to 102.4°F (39.1°C). Baloo remains seriously ill and is being closely monitored while the veterinarians work to determine what is causing this sudden and severe decline. Baloo has already overcome a tremendous amount. I rescued him about a year ago after he and his two siblings were abandoned at a beach. When Baloo was only three months old, he became critically ill with Leptospirosis and suffered severe jaundice and liver complications. Against the odds, he survived. We don’t yet know whether his current condition is connected to his previous illness or whether another serious problem is responsible. More diagnostic testing and veterinary care are urgently needed. His emergency treatment, hospitalization, diagnostics, medications, and intensive care are creating significant veterinary expenses, and those costs are continuing to increase.
