@lisaremillard: #nationalpark #presidenttrump #greatoutdoors The Trump administration has recently announced a proposed rule to repeal the Roadless Area Conservation Rule of 2001. This rule was put in place to (originally) protect about 58 million acres of pristine national forest. The rule generally prohibited road construction, reconstruction and timber harvest. Back in 2001 the federal government feared urban expansion and was concerned that if left to local land managers, they might choose growth over conservation. So instead, the US Forest Service believed it was their responsibility to look at the “whole picture” and protect that land. But now, Trump’s US Forest Service believes the complete opposite. Now, the Service says that 2001 rule has to go. They believe more roads and logging in those protected areas will protect the forest from wildfires. This video explains the what’s going on now, the backstory and what you can do if you have thoughts on this.

Generally, these roadless areas are in remote areas surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of forest service land WITH roads, fire breaks, and harvestable timber.

Hi, I work for the forest service and I have family that I’ve worked in the forest service during this decision back in 2001. I’ve heard the argument back-and-forth which is better however last year I went on a fire that took us four days to get access to where the fire was because we had to reopen a road. It was a lightning fire and instead of stopping the fire at 1000 acres it grew to 25,000 acres solely because we couldn’t get Crew in in time. The best measure of management is not how many fires but how big those fires get. The main reason fires have gotten big are two reasons lack of access and lack of management. Roads and the ability to make the decision for fuels reduction have been the number one issue in prevention. Roads being the common denominator are the issue for suppression. The bush administration, the abo administration and the Biden administration all put out a survey during their times in office about how forest service employees enjoy their job/overall satisfaction. Every time one of these surveys have come out this was our number one issue. We can’t do our jobs in prevention and suppression properly. Solely due to this legislation. But we are the ones who have to face the public when they lose their property, homes and values.

But where else are we going to provide free housing to the millions of dreamers across the globe? I say, tear it down, take the profits and firstly, give our politicians a pay increase with it, then raise taxes to combine it with the remaining to provide for them. (Free healthcare, education, communications, housing, and transportation. Aka free cars). Where is everyone’s compassion!?!?

The solution they came up with to combat forest fires is to…. Log and place more roads?

Since the quality Canadian wood will cost more to import because of Daddy Trump’s tariffs, could it be a way to open those forests to be harvested to its maximum potential?

I live in a county with 60% national forest, I remember seeing the logging back in the 70s, and how it changed the views. 50 years later we make more off these tourists than we ever would from lumber. I'm for selective logging in specific areas, not a mass logging boom
