I feel there was sum sort of trafficking those time… like young women probably didn’t have a say what happens to their bodies, n used food to control them 😒😒😒🙅🏽♀️🙅🏽♀️

Lu The Dime :
My 2 cents on what I know about Okufukala in the Oshikwanyama tradition:
In the past, girls were taken for okufukala as early as adolescence stage .
It was called efundula leengoma eengoma - from ongoma, meaning drums , refers to this because drums were used to celebrate during efudula leengoma.
This was similar to what we now call olukufo, a rite of passage. However, the key difference is that most girls back then did not go willingly. They were taken by their uncles or by decision of the elders, not by their own choice. Their will either convince you to go and if you resist they will find a way to take you there without your knowledge. Uncles will come and capture you and off you go. 🤣🤣
The reason it was often done secretly is that it was viewed as taboo and Christians were against it. That’s why Meekulu mentioned she wanted to get married in church instead of okufukikwa.
I hope this makes sense.
Please confirm with Meekulu if I am correct ❤️
