My parents were out of town for the weekend, and I was the only person in the house. Nothing unusual. I locked the doors. Closed the windows. Checked every room before going upstairs. Then, at 1:13 in the morning, I heard footsteps downstairs. Slow footsteps. Step. Step. Step. I froze in bed. I told myself it was the house settling. Then I heard the kitchen cabinet open. I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight. The hallway outside my bedroom was empty. I stayed there for several minutes. Then I heard another sound. Someone whispered my name. From downstairs. I called my dad. Straight to voicemail. I called again. Nothing. Then my bedroom door moved. Just slightly. The handle slowly turned. I stared at it. The door opened about two inches. Nobody was there. I got out of bed and locked it. Then I heard footsteps running down the hallway. I backed away from the door. My phone buzzed. A text from my mom. Are you awake? I typed back: Yes. Why? She replied immediately. Do not leave your room. My stomach dropped. I called her. She answered on the first ring. Her voice was barely a whisper. “Listen to me.” “What happened?” “We got an alert from the security system.” “What alert?” “There’s movement inside the house.” I looked at my bedroom door. “Where?” She didn’t answer. Then she said: “It says the movement is coming from your bedroom.” I stared at the floor. There was something wrong with the shadows beneath my door. A pair of feet were standing on the other side. Bare feet. Too long. Too thin. I covered my mouth. My mother whispered: “Are you still in your room?” I nodded before realizing she couldn’t see me. “Yes.” She went silent. Then I heard her breathing change. “Listen carefully,” she said. “That thing isn’t outside your door.” My blood went cold. “What?” She whispered: “It’s already inside.” I slowly turned around. My closet door was open. I knew I had closed it. Something was standing inside. Tall. Bent forward. Its head nearly touched the ceiling. I couldn’t see its face. It was just watching me. I dropped the phone. The thing moved. Not toward me. Toward the bedroom door. It reached through the gap beneath it. A long, pale hand slid into the hallway. Then another. I ran for the window. Behind me, I heard my bedroom door unlock itself. I jumped onto the roof outside and pulled the window shut. I crawled across the roof and climbed down to the yard. I ran to the neighbors. They called the police. When the officers arrived, they searched the entire house. Nothing. No broken windows. No footprints. No intruder. Then one officer came outside. He looked confused. He asked me: “Where did you say you saw it?” “Upstairs.” He stared at me. “That’s strange.” “Why?” He pointed toward the house. “There are no footprints upstairs.” I looked at him. “Then what?” He swallowed. “There are footprints coming out of your bedroom.” I felt my stomach drop. “How many?” He didn’t answer. He just looked toward the dark upstairs window. Then I heard something. A slow knock. From inside the house. Three times. Knock. Knock. Knock. The officer raised his radio. Before he could speak, every light in the house turned on. One by one. Downstairs. Then the stairs. Then the hallway. Then my bedroom. And in the upstairs window, I saw the thing standing there. Watching us. It raised one long hand. And waved. I haven’t stayed home alone since. But sometimes, when I’m lying in bed at night, I hear those same footsteps in the hallway. Step. Step. Step. And every time, they stop outside my bedroom door. Waiting. Like whatever came into my house that night never actually left. #horrortok #creepy #scarystories #scary #fyp
