I do really like hearing atheists like you and Alex O’Conner, openly talk about how they’ve changed their thinking. It’s a rly nice twist from a religious background where it’s "I was wrong and now I’m right!". With you two, you’re showing how thoughts can change. I used to think A, now I align more with B. I personally hold to anti-theism mainly bc of the bigotry in the books. How I see it, is you can be as progressive and deconstructed in your faith as u can, but as as long as that book is still bigoted, ppl will use it to defend their bigotry. But that may change, who knows?

I was an atheist for the longest time, still mostly am. I have no problem with the concept of god. That said i have no belief in organized religion.

Which of the teachings attributed to Jesus does he follow though? The ones where atheists will burn for eternity for not being convinced he exists? Praising Jesus as an immaculate moral teacher usually requires a high degree of selective reading.

He's awesome. I can't hate. He's the only one who's ever taken my questions seriously and had decent answers. not that im religious, but he's awesome! and yeah, his version of Christianity is great. if every Christian followed him, the world would be a better place.

maybe its because im an athiest who never experinced nihilism. i can never truely see religious people of any kind as "my team". The tools to find meaning an purpose outside of religion exist its all a matter of spreading it. i also see harm in religion beyond fundemantalism.

This is how I feel about my mom and her faith. I may not believe what she believes, but she has created such good in the world because of it and I see every day how it supports her mentally. So I’m happy that it exists for her

people tend to be too prideful to admit they just don’t know. I sit in an agnostic point of view, but also I value the teachings of Jesus. The world would be a better place if we showed the kindness/empathy towards others the way he did. When people argue their side and refute others point of view it gets us nowhere. We don’t always have to be right about everything and should be open minded to understand each other.

I have a spiritual/religious practice that’s not tied to anything organized. It gives me comfort and a wellspring to draw on when I’m trying to dig deeper into what I need to work on to grow as a person or to help build another world. I’ve got zero reason to proselytize and no certainty that what I believe is “true”. But I do firmly believe that ripping away rituals and beliefs that give individuals comfort or community is antithetical to the goal of building a more harmonious and collaborative society. There is so much nuance to the conversation and it’s good when theists and atheists can bridge the divide, like you said.
