one of his lawyers previously worked for harvey weinstein after his allegations came out, so i doubt it’s a reputation issue. he probably either can’t or won’t pay them anymore

i think he wanted a defense that the lawyers think is unethical. lawyers cannot lie or mislead the court and if he wanted to plead not guilty they knew they'd have nothing to argue.

I would say David has let his high-priced lawyers go & has moved his money to his family. My personal theory? He knows he’s going down. Going through with the trial gives him one final audience. He gets to relive what he did, watch everyone dissect it, & add another chapter to his own lore. The tortured artist. The spectacle. The visual-album version of the murder, & his downfall. Maybe I’m completely wrong, but I don’t think avoiding prison is necessarily the point anymore. 🤷🏻♀️

It’s not uncommon for this to happen in serious felony cases. Private lawyers charge a big amount of money upfront that only covers the preliminary hearing and after that they will want another big sum of money so if the client can’t pay they relieve themselves and it goes to the public defender
