for those in the comments: if teens had the self-control to stay off their phones on their own we wouldnt need a phone ban. this is a result of teens having no regulations around tech by the adults in their lives. stop blaming teachers for trying to solve problems they did not create.

As an educator, I fully understand the sentiment behind the phone ban. Students should be focused on learning. However, as both a parent and an educator, my kids, your kids, their kids can stop having phones once we stop having school shootings. Why have we banned phones before assault rifles??

I’m a teacher and really all we need you to support is phones in backpacks during class. I don’t want to use up class time getting into an argument with a teenager and it’s not like I’m going to physically rip it from their hands, but it needs to be away so they can concentrate during class.

my mom is type 1 diabetic, if she has a medical emergency she needs to get to me, they try to say "well they can call the office" the office barely even pick up the phone half the time, if my mom is fucking DYING she's not gonna think to call the office first she's gonna call me first.

People with med emergencies ARE ALLOWED to use their phones for medical purposes. School is so much better now that phones are banned.

I have never understood what these "at school emergencies" are that a kid having a cell phone in class will solve! If they're sick or injured, the school nurse/admins will call! If there's a fire/tornado/shooter/avalanche/meteor strike/Godzilla emergency what is your kid calling you and screaming "GODZILLAAAAA" into the phone going to do? Are you superman? Gonna go into a phone booth, spin around real fast to change into your costume, fly over there, and punch the tornado away from the school? Going to have them put it on speakerphone so you can give that fire a piece of your mind?
