That whole “trauma dumping” regurgitation really messed up a lot of connections between women. We have always talked. We have always put words to our pain. Friends were always there for that because it’s part of being a community. You listen to me. I listen to you. Now nobody wants to speak.

Just had a falling out with a really close friend who said I always inconvenience her by adjusting plans. I had asked for a one hour adjustment because I needed to rest after work. Every time she brought up was me asking for an adjustment or rescheduling was me asking way ahead of the meeting time and because I was sick or tired.

One time I asked my best friend of 10+ years to watch my plant while I was gone for a couple of months. She said she doesn’t like this type of plant and if I have something else to give her. This wasn’t a gift, it was a favor. I thought we’d watch each others kids one day, because this is what friends do. But I guess a plant is too big of a commitment…

I think the words you’re looking for are «fair weather friends». People want superficial friendships that only focuses on the good times, and as soon as the nuances of real friendships show up, it’s suddenly «toxic» and not okay.
