@evvshoots: 🪸 A great day for the reef! We were able to salvage two dozen uprooted gorgonian octocorals from Neon Reef on Miami Beach and relocate them. These gorgonians had been knocked over by a large abandoned fishing net (“ghost net”), that had drifted across the reef. These displaced soft corals are native to Neon Reef where they provide important habitat for fish and marine life. This mission was authorized under an environmental permit issued by FWC and led by marine biologist and coral expert Colin Foord of @Coral Morphologic on August 3rd, 2026 A HUGE thank you to @Diver’s Paradise Miami for taking us out and helping us make this reef rescue mission happen! The Gorgs were safely gathered and placed on the boat for a quick ride a few blocks south to their new home on the Reefline, an artificial reef right off of 5th St. While on the boat the corals were kept wet by our marine team with buckets of fresh ocean water. Now secured, the replanted gorgonians should be flourishing again soon :)
