What actually works best in situations like that is ask "who wants tequila shots" then wave over the waitress and order them and then introduce yourself "Hi I'm Anna from Sweden pleased to meet you all..now whatcha all talking about" what happens next is either they tell you and bring you into their conversation or you completely take over the narrative and start a whole different topic and then....the tequila shots arrive and you're the focus of the event. My Swedish Father taught me how to steal the show in any setting.
