If it is so easy why is it so expensive to set up a refinery?

If we don’t have the technology, then what are all these refineries actually used for?

I understand we have the ability to refine oil, but isn't the problem that most of our refineries are set up for heavy and most of ours is light?

These people who claim to love America sure are quick to believe anything negative about America. They’ll believe 10 positive lies about Russia as easily as 10 negative lies about America.

Actually we don’t refine our own oil. Light sweet crude is not good for making diesel. We import heavy crude to make diesel and gas etc. can we refine it? Sure. Do we? NO. And trying to put light sweet crude in the currently configured refineries can damage them. They have to be configured for light sweet crude.

This is unsatisfying. The basic premise of refining oil is simple, but keeping the process going in an economical way is difficult. Oil grades are not all processed the same way. And the narrative I’ve always heard is that the US exports the heavy oil and imports light oil because that’s what our refineries were designed for. Is that wrong, or oversimplified?

Ive been told its less that we cant and more that our refineries are built to refine the pure or sweet oil from the middle east and what we pump is sour oil. and if we refined our oil here it would be significantly less efficient. is that not correct?

The US has some of the best refineries in the in the world. Not many can refine the garbage from Venezuela and Canada. We DO.

serious question, if it's so easy why are we saying it will take years and billions of dollars to refine Venezuela oil?
