@bowel.cancer.dan: Replying to @L A U R A The doctor found a huge tumour during my colonoscopy and decided not to tell me that day. Which sounds completely insane until you know the reason. It was my birthday. I’d gone in expecting a routine colonoscopy and came out being told there was “a large polyp and they’d taken biopsies”, but not that they already strongly suspected bowel cancer. I found out about 2 weeks later. Cancer diagnosis is rarely one neat cinematic moment. Sometimes it’s confusing, delayed and full of conversations you only understand fully when you reflect later. This is one of those bits of my bowel cancer story that still feels completely surreal to say out loud. But I’m so glad I can still enjoy my birthday without it being diagnosis day. #bowelcancer #cancerstory #bowelcancerawareness #colonoscopy #coloncancer

Well they told you that you had a large polyp which you did. They didn’t tell you that you had cancer because the pathology takes up to 2 weeks

I always watch the colonoscopy and ask questions all way through. I had 10 polyps removed 18 months ago and now another 19. I watch what they do. Good luck

Just me 58! Solo traveller 🥰 :
I had a " nasty polyp " on my colonoscopy which even I could see wasn't right, they took biopsies and said they were going to send me straight for MRI and CT scans, I asked the nurse before I left did she think it was cancerous and she said yes. Turned out to be a 7cm tumour in my rectum, stage 2, just going into the wall, but hadn't spread. I was told I'd probably need full removal of rectum etc and permanent stoma, but first radiotherapy to try to shrink it. So, 5 weeks of radiotherapy, followed by 4 rounds of chemotherapy ( they can't operate straight after radiotherapy so decided to chuck some chemo at me whilst I was waiting).. However, scans revealed that the radiotherapy had done an amazing job and not only shrunk my tumour but completely zapped it ! I'm now " disease free" and having MRI scans and camera test/ biopsies every 3 months to check everything is still good 👍 so no operation, ❤️I'm returning to work soon, but it's been a very eventful year !

That’s actually a lovely story. My husband got told on the spot he had bowel cancer aged 44. His was very advanced and causing an almost complete bowel obstruction, so the surgeon had to warn him in case he did suffer a blockage. I wish we’d had another few days of ignorance - the prognosis was horrible. He had stage 3/4 cancer and it was chemo resistant. He’s fine now, and we can laugh about it (no, we can’t 😂)

During mine I already knew that I the tumour, they removed it but didn’t say anything about cancer HOWEVER I remember laying there and they were chatting about the biopsy and the consultant starts shouting “blue bag blue bag”.. not realising I work in the cancer field too.. I knew exactly what blue bag meant 😅

My surgeon was very tactful after my colonoscopy, but the nurse said you are quite likely to be able to make it to your daughter‘s wedding. That was the first time I realized I had cancer, and I might be at the end of my life

I was anaemic a few years ago and was losing blood, had to have a colonoscopy, they found a polyp which was removed. Feel very fortunate that it was caught before it became anything sinister. So important to always do that test when it’s offered or to seek help when anything changes in your bowel habits.

After chemo they told me the tumour had reduced significantly…… for the tumour removal they had to make another cut to get it out…. It was the size of my fist. God knows the size before. Xx

I just had my first colonoscopy this past Friday and I was totally surprised that they found nothing! Not a single polyp. I’m 46 and really expected something. I guess it’s the little wins.

Its complicated. She just decided to take the positive approach. As it needs proof.... as it could also be a crazy encapsuled infection.

There was no missing mine. The monitor was right in front of me and having had a clear colonoscopy 3 yrs earlier I could tell they’d found something as they stopped quite quickly and I could see them taking samples of this mass of tissue. Consultant came in for a chat after and said it was most likely cancer. Mine was in my sigmoid colon too and it was quite big, so big they couldn’t go past it with the camera 🙈

I've heard a mix but the guy doing mine was a colorectal surgeon and he told me right away. I was sedated but only felt a little dopey. He told me what was likely going to happen next but he was quite surprised to find it given age (43) and lack of symptoms (until there was)
