Road alert: Truck overturns near Dali, highway closed in both directions #RoadReportCY A major road traffic incident caused severe disruption on the Nicosia–Limassol motorway on Thursday, 23 July 2026 afternoon after a heavy goods vehicle overturned near the Dali Industrial Area (Kalithea/Carlsberg area), forcing the closure of both carriageways during the afternoon rush hour. The collision occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m., when, according to preliminary information, the driver of a truck travelling from Limassol towards Nicosia reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The truck struck the central safety barrier, crossed into the opposite carriageway and overturned. The truck was carrying a large load of gravel, which spilled across the motorway after the crash. Images and video footage captured by a passing RoadReporter show the truck lying on its side, extensive damage to the central barrier, emergency crews at the scene, and thousands of kilograms of gravel covering the road surface. Police and Fire Service units responded immediately, securing the area while recovery operations began. Due to the extent of the debris and damage, authorities closed the motorway towards Limassol, while traffic towards Nicosia was also heavily affected, with vehicles being diverted through the emergency lane. Traffic congestion quickly built up in both directions, creating long delays during one of the busiest travel periods of the day. Drivers travelling towards Limassol were advised to leave the motorway via the new Nicosia Ring Road exit and continue along the old Nicosia–Limassol road, before rejoining the motorway at Pera Chorio Nisou. At the time of publication, the exact circumstances that led to the crash remain under investigation by the Cyprus Police. No official information regarding injuries had been released. Road users are urged to follow police instructions, allow extra travel time, and avoid the affected section until the motorway is fully reopened. Video footage and images were captured by a passing RoadReporter and shared with RoadReportCY. RoadReportCY — We inform today. We protect tomorrow.
