I feel like the authors were so stunned by the fact that people loved kid-ellie even if they hated Bella's casting choice and they were afraid of making her cruel like she was in the second game so they just kept her that way. However the whole storyline won't make sense in the future bc the whole story is carried by Ellie being a selfish and vindictive person. Even if they'll change her in season 3 it won't make sense bc it'll be too sudden, we needed to see some of her cruel side in this season too.
