Producers should create music, and actual DJs should play it. Most of the great producers are the most basic DJs but a great dj that’s never produced a single track can take songs you’ve heard a million times and make them something so much bigger than the song itself by manipulating it and molding tracks together.

the crowd doesnt care. the avg person going to festivals are just there to have fun not there for specific DJs & producers unless one of there favorite DJs specifically mentions and markets that they will be there. but even major djs like fread again, dead mouse, skrillex and more all use other djs and producers music. they may create there own edit but ive seen many videos of djs playing the exact same edit and even dropping it in the exact same way. part of thus is because of social media. people hear an edit and associate the song with that edit so djs recognize that and use it as a tool to keep the audience engaged. if you play 100% your own music and more than half of that music nobody knows than even if its a good song it may not hit like a song that the audience has heard a million times.

If youre getting booked as just a DJ, you have to be a damn good DJ with something special to make your set original without original music. Because anyone can learn to DJ with very minimal training. But making music takes a lot of time and knowledge.

There is nothing new under the sun The clubs use to be a sanctuary for people with all kid of house being played before you knew it it was five in the morning and let’s not forget the after hour some spots were a hole in the wall but the music was all underground house really great tracks you never heard before until that night I understand we all have our favorite DJ/Producer/Artist but there is so much more out there When I use Beatport or Traxsource to select tracks for a new mix i spend a lot of time in these sites because there is so many great unheard tracks And that was one of the reasons I went clubbing it was because of the music the friendships and then the story telling about the night when would go get breakfast at the dinner
