I definitely have had real oxtails, but at the same time, I realized I for sure would serve some kangaroo meat, but it all taste the same… you genuinely cannot tell unless you’re paying attention to the bone

Oxtail pieces don’t all have the same shape. It depends on where along the cow’s tail the piece was cut. Pieces closer to the base can have more pronounced projections and look star-shaped, while pieces farther down the tail can look more rounded. So seeing a star-shaped piece doesn’t mean it’s kangaroo it can still just be oxtail. The whole TikTok kangaroo-tail conspiracy is based on treating normal differences in tail anatomy like they prove it came from another animal.
