@moonlit_kit: Replying to @LuckyDoni Keeping up with hair hygiene and maintenance when you’re chronically ill and disabled can be incredibly difficult. I’m somebody with POTS, hEDS, and a variety of comorbidities, and for the longest time showering was one of THE most difficult tasks for me to keep up with. I would get dizzy from the hot water and standing for so long, my heart rate would race, my arms would feel numb and heavy when I went to wash my hair, and it would take me the entire day to recover. I’ve found a few things that made showering and managing my hair easier during that time period and I hope even if some of these are a bit obvious, maybe they’ll help someone feel a little less alone for having to use these things 🫶 trust and believe, you’re not the only one and it’s not a moral failing ❤️ #chronicillness #chronicallyill #disabled #disability #hairtips

Undercut and braids are life savers with pots. Also with keeping hair fresh for longer time rinsing shampoo for at least minute makes a great difference as well as brushing hair regularly. And for ppl with bathtubs too small for a shower chair there are also stools created specifically for bathtubs

I cut my hair short for better management and I love it! I was worried, I had at least 18 inches cut off, but it really feels like me!

Using a toweling robe rather than a towel so you can just put it on and go and lie down rather than fully drying yourself off and getting dressed immediately after

I went for a pixie hawk but it's also because I'd never been "allowed" short hair before. It has made a huge difference since everything takes less than 5 mins hair wise so my upper body doesn't hurt as much. I also have a lighter weight but powerful dryer

not entirely pertaining to hair or being IN the shower, but moreso for the transition out - I notice a big thing that leads to my crash after showering is the HARD adjustment my body has to do going from a hot shower to my cold apartment. Especially as someone who keeps my thermostat at 66 to manage overheating - that violent transition gets rough for my body to adjust to. A towel warmer has been an absolute game changer for that!! not only does it help the transition from hot to cold, I also just have that warm-from-the-dryer feeling to my towels and clothes after showering and it's SUPER cozy.

something that was a game changer for me and my mobility issues was getting a terry cloth bathrobe. no more contorting myself to dry off, just straight to the robe and it'll dry me off as I wear it. saves SO much energy for me

I went pixie length and it helped a lot. I have a shower attachment that brings my shower down to my level and points it to my head without needing to hold my arms up to long.

The best advice I’ve come across for extending the time between washing hair: shampoo only on the roots, conditioner only in the length, dry shampoo on when your hair is clean. Between disability stuff and eczema on my scalp, wet head is not good for me. I wash my hair once a week, tie it back and it’s still pretty clean a week later.

I’m very grateful for the bathroom in my apartment, nice big windows above the bathtub and I light candles instead of big light, I bring a drink in with me. Dosent help with washing my hair (autism) but it helps me be able to wash my body and face dayly. Witch for me is really important to help manage symptoms of other conditions

I sometimes wash my hair outside the shower in a tab or leaned over a drain, my biggest problem is the sensory of showering and splitting the task of cleaning my body from cleaning my hair makes it more manageable

I got a PSW and honestly it's been a game changer. she comes 2x a week and does my hair and sheets and if I have veg that needs to be chopped she does that. it helps me be less symptomatic the rest of the week, and makes flairs more manageable

I have a bit of a side question when you mentioned overheating. How do you cope in summer with compression socks? I’ve spent most of this winter over heating and already wearing some of my summer clothes and it looks like we’re in for a really hot spring and summer (hopefully only a handful of 40c days). Any summer tips would be awesome ☺️

I love being in water, so showers are refreshing but it's been getting harder for me to take one, so I got a seat. Also mostly do cool showers

can I add a towelling robe for after the shower. I often need to recover for 10/15 minutes, a towel robe with a hood is a game changer for being able to dry off while not able to exert effort

4 years and a half ago I had my hair just above my 🍑 and had to cut it all out (with hair clippers but no attachments for length) because I was flaring out so badly. Now I have it just above my chest and it feels manageable and I LOVE IT
