Imagine you're standing on a perfectly flat patch of ground. You have somehow decided that the most reasonable use of your afternoon is to construct a rapidly rising tower consisting of floors, walls, ramps, and an increasingly questionable disregard for gravity. Your objective is simple: Go upward while repeatedly turning 90 degrees. In Fortnite, this takes approximately three business seconds. In real life, you'd need lumber, fasteners, tools, structural planning, and probably somebody asking why you're building a staircase to the clouds. Step 1: The first floor You begin with a horizontal platform. In Fortnite, you press a button and— POOF. Floor. In reality, a floor needs actual structural support. A horizontal surface has to transfer your weight downward through beams or other structural members into something capable of supporting it. So already, your real-life 90 is considerably slower. You stand on the platform. You look upward. There is currently nowhere to go. This is where the ramp enters the story. 🪜 Step 2: The ramp A ramp is essentially an inclined surface. Instead of walking straight upward—which would be rather difficult—you walk along the slope. Your feet push backward and downward against the ramp. The ramp pushes back on your feet. That interaction gives you the support necessary to remain on the ramp rather than simply sliding through the universe. You walk upward. At the top of the ramp, you reach the first turning point. And now comes the important part: The 90-degree turn. 🔄 Step 3: Turning 90 degrees A 90-degree turn means changing your direction by a quarter of a full rotation. A complete circle is: 360° Half a circle: 180° A quarter: 90° So when you turn left or right, you're rotating your direction through one quarter of a circle. Your body doesn't instantly teleport into the new direction. Your legs have to generate forces against the ground. You plant one foot. Your muscles adjust your balance. Your center of mass shifts. Your other foot moves. Your torso rotates. Your arms may move slightly because humans apparently enjoy making balance more complicated than necessary. Eventually: You are facing a new direction. Congratulations.
