(Repost because I noticed a typo) Honestly my only gripe with modern slasher movies is the fact that they still perpetuate (especially sexual) violence against women in a way that seems to poke fun at them and for shock factor rather than for the story. Terrifier is actually a great example of this because of the scene with the woman naked and chained up and the men typically having swift deaths whereas the women’s death scenes are drawn out. I’m not going to sit here and say that I think slasher flicks shouldn’t be gory or wte because I was and still am an avid supporter of the SAW franchise, but I feel like there’s a fine line between disliking the existence of a movie that is objectively unethical and potentially harmful in a world where people romanticize movies like Lolita, and being “puritanical”.

People cannot grasp the concept of being allowed to like things with problematic elements. Yes absolutely especially with the first movie there are things in terrifier that are or could be considered problematic. However liking the movies doesn’t make anyone a horrible person and people are allowed to enjoy movies other people think are bad.

Amount of ‘horror fans’ that genuinely demonize you if you don’t like standard slashers is crazy… the most extreme slasher that most horror fans can handle now is like maybe the Texas chainsaw massacre and that’s being really generous. They would lose their mind if you show them house of 1000 corpse or the firefly trilogy in general or if you showed them disturbing movies like slither

Had to take a HUGE step back from commenting about horror when people starting calling Terrifier misogynistic, when I LOVE the franchise lol😅 Those people need to do some unpacking and learn about horror as a whole. Newsflash, women are targeted in horror bc they are the main victims of violence irl 🤦♀️Also, the main character, besides Art the Clown, is a girl named Savanna..plus there's just as many male deaths that are comparatively brutal to the female deaths 🤦♀️😅There's some really good documentaries out there that dive into why certain subjects and situations are talked about artistically through horror movies, and they explain pretty well how political horror is. Terrifier is also a slasher and people were sooo upset about some of the scenes, but I loved it bc I respect the art and the gorey scenes were creative and different and that's the point 😂 I think the people who made it weird just don't watch horror movies like that lol
