@modernday_eratosthenes: Is that the big dipper? No, it’s you asking Google a question #stem #Science Sources: 1. “Orbital data centers could transform our night sky forever” – Scientific American 2. “Why Orbital Data Centers Are Harder Than Silicon Valley Thinks” – IEEE Spectrum 3. “The Real Story on AI’s Water Use–and How to Tackle It” – IEEE Spectrum
Yall act like the water is just gone. Like it doesn’t get evaporated back into the environment

this is so disingenuous because none of them are consuming the water. every single one is a closed system.

This video is slightly misleading. Almost all data centers in the USA use less water per day than a golf course. Newer ones are even closed loop. I know I’ll get attacked for this…

Better plan , let's just not have the data centers

Space isn't really viable with the excess heat generated and the difficulty in shedding that heat in a vacuum. What they need to do is use salt water cooling and convert cargo ships into floating data centers. They can tether to offshore wind turbines for power and people can still service them without a rocket ship.

It won’t happen. More than likely on the oceans if anything. Much cheaper.

There are non-water coolants that can be used. Yes, they're more expensive but they should be forced to use those instead of a finite natural resource.

Data centre cooling systems are closed loop. Once they’re filled they don’t use anymore water 😁

We know exactly how to cool things in space. Otherwise people on the ISS would all be dead.
