@deborahwanjala: Can anyone relate to this? I don't have extraordinary hair genetics. I basically trim it every other month which prevents a lot of length rentention but if I don't, my hair tends to end up in a natural V-shape, which I don't love. It is what it issssss #grwm #hair #naturalhair #silkpress

Why do you think the v is a problem? It’s like the way some ladies think the hour glass shape is the right shape for a woman so they go for enhancement

Your hair is most likely in different growth cycles.

and this is why I repeatedly say, those blunt cut trims aren't it! hair grows at different cycles, patterns and has different breaking points! follow the V, more than likely its the perimeter of your hair thats breaking or growing slow. maybe its where you often put products. think about how you handle your hair, where you typically grip to style, what side you lay on. where your headaches often sit...alllat that comes into play trying to work out that V

Mine is the opposite! Mine grows in an upside down v and my right side always grows faster than the left 😭

BTW the picture with the yellow shirt was from back when I was a curly natural (Before I became a straight natural). Hopefully this helps anyone who also feels like their length retention journey is going slowly. We're in this together!

you're retaining more length from your nape than the sides and top of your head. My nape grows much faster (6.5 inches a year) compared to my hairline/temples (5-5.5 inches) and the rest of my head (6 inches). I also retain more length at my nape as the hairs are a looser curl pattern and honestly less prone to being dry and brittle. That being said, I do have to cut the longest part of the tail off to even out with the rest of my hair, but at some point the sides catch up to the nape length, and the trims from the taper slow down. I notice you're having to cut the entire perimeter of your hair each time, so of course the sides will never catch up to the nape since you're cutting the same length everywhere + it seems your nape grows back faster anyway. if you have to trim the entire perimeter of your hair, you're experiencing breakage rather than just evening things out. Evening out would be a straight cut, not curving around and cutting a bit from everywhere. That being said, you're still retaining some length clearly, but likely not as much as you could if you figured out how to reduce the breakage you experience. Up to around 12 inches of hair, I think most people should be able to maintain 4.4-5 inches of hair a year. Then 3-4 inches each year after that until you hit your plateau. If not, you likely haven't optimized your routine and reduced breakage as much as you could.

That’s crazy because my hair grows blunt across and I cut it into a v shape for more volume lol. Every time I get a trim or reshape, I’m always starting with a blunt cut
