my mother took me to a women's conference in 2002 called "Intimate Issues". I had no idea what the conference was about. I was a 21 year old new wife and mom and I spent the next two days being told all of the ways in which denying my husband sex was wicked. I remember going home after the conference and begging him to forgive me and promising I would never do it again. I spent the next 20 years of my marriage being sexually abused in the name of God's teachings.

I'm sorry I wasn't aware that anything in the New testament beyond Jesus words were commands because I thought Paul was just a mere man and not the Savior God like Jesus and Jesus said to obey the commandments he never once said to obey your husband

In college there were multiple girls in my bible groups that made “being a submissive wife” their whole personalities. Like, get giddy about being able to submit to a man one day… that was truly the beginning of the end for me.

Thank you for reminding people because I feel like I’m crazy whenever I say hey this is all the stuff I heard growing up, this isn’t “weird” for evangelicals. And I wasn’t raised fundamentalist. It was a very typical church.

I am COMPLETELY against the notion that women should submit to abusive men. But that is a complete distortion of what complimentarianism actually is. Ephesians 5 does say that wives should submit to their husbands. But it also says that all Christians should submit to one another. AND it says that husbands should love their wives as Christ loves the church, and GAVE HIMSELF UP FOR HER. That is complimentarianism. It is mutual respect and submission. The teaching cannot lead to abuse because such abuse is directly contrary to the teaching. Mica's husband was a monster and did not love her anything like Jesus, AT ALL.

The most important line that Micah left us with was when she recognized that first and foremost her soul was a bride of Christ that truth is what leads you in marriage to be mutually serving Christ at the Hart at the center. That’s how my husband and I have gotten to 34 years.

These wives aren’t all homemaker trad wives. A doctor I worked under on my internship explained to me how important it was for her to submit to her husband as he was the head of their house and the leader of their marriage. He left her for a coworker.
