It does however, make for good continuation from yesterday’s tank of the day! With around 50,000 built during World War II, the M4 Sherman was the Western Allies’ most numerous tank. It was developed from the M3 Lee, and now featured the turret that was not available for the Lee, with the 75mm main gun. In 1942, it was more than a match for the German Panzer III and IV. It served with nearly all the Allied Armies, including the US, Britain, Canada, France, Poland, China, India, South Africa, and even the Soviet Union under Lend-Lease. The only Allied country to reject the Sherman was Australia. It served in all theatres, and was the backbone of the Western Allied armoured forces during WWII. It continued to be used postwar, including by the US in Korea. Shermans were sold all over the world after WWII. Upgraded Shermans, known as M50s, were used by Israeli Defence Forces in the Arab-Israeli War of 1948 and the Six-Day War of 1967. Shermans were also used by the opposing side in the conflicts by Egypt.
