Fantastic work! Making some next to my fireplace on either side, but they won’t be attached on the sides to the wall. So I’m using floating brackets, making a frame and wrapping it with 1/4” birch plywood. May want to talk my wife into letting me attach to 1 wall for support and leave the side next to the fireplace with a gap. It’s real brick so it’s not a flat spot, I like the look of brick and I don’t think scribing the side would look good there.

Mechanical is good. Design wise is getting old. Lately, thinner solid wood with strip LED lightning has been replacing that concept.

Why finish before putty instead of putty before finish? Won’t the putty’d spots contrast more if they don’t receive the same finish as the surrounding wood?
