As an American, he deserved to be shot down; but it wasn’t his fault, we were arrogant and hence why we never flew an SR-71 over Moscow. lol. We flew drones, those didn’t get as much attention and the Russians even returned a few if not all of those drones when they were garbage to them yet invaluable to us…

Fun fact: the U2 was shot down just a few weeks after Oswald defected to Russia. But was able to return to the US with his Russian wife with no issue. Which is unheard of.
