It’s sad women don’t realize if Lindsay Clancy is found not guilty or not guilty by reason of insanity it would represent a dangerous step backward for women. Such a verdict could open the door for people to treat hormonal fluctuations as a permanent liability, giving others a ready excuse to exclude women from full participation in society. Employers could refuse to hire women on the grounds that they are “too hormonal.” The military could bar women from service for the same reason. Voting rights could be questioned. Custody of children after childbirth could be routinely challenged on the claim that a woman’s hormones might lead her to harm herself or others. In short, the hard-won rights women have fought for over generations equal employment, military service, political participation, and parental rights could be steadily eroded under the guise of protecting society from “hormonal” women
