"Coraline and the Secret Door" is one of the darkest films for children (and adults) there is. But more disturbing than the tape is the true story behind it. It turns out that Coraline Si existed and her tragic destiny served as the basis for stories, legends, books and of course the animated film directed by HenrySelick in 2009. But Coraline’s true story is far from being a story for children, much less one with a happy ending the true story of Coraline Actually, Coraline’s film is based on the novel of the same name written by the British NeilGaiman in 2002. However, the original story comes from an Ancient and chilling story of his hometown: County of Hampshire, in the United Kingdom. The story tells that on the outskirts of Hampshire lived an old woman with her newborn granddaughter. Her son and daughter-in-law had lost their lives in a terrible fire and the little girl had miraculously survived. Time passed and the girl was never seen going out to play. Her grandmother kept her locked up and didn’t allow anyone to approach the house, so she was nicknamed 'The Bad Mother. So much mystery aroused the curiosity of several of the children of the town who, in a challenge of courage, decided to wait for the night to enter the mansion and meet the mysterious girl. But when they entered they found no indication that a girl lived there, neither clothes, nor toys the only thing they found was a crib. Inside they found the body of a baby, almost completely burned, with buttons in the place where the eyes and seams should go where the mouth would have been before. Then they knew the truth: the girl had never survived the fire, the only thing the old woman had managed to recover was her body that she clung to as if she were still alive. The children fled in fear from the house and told their parents what they had seen. Finally, the old woman was imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital where she remained until the day of her death. So there you have it, now that you know Coraline’s true story, you won’t see the movie in the same way again.
