Exactly!!! You know what’s actually crazy my catholic friend was telling me there’s a certain event where they have to wear a hijab and a abaya like and it has to cover all the way to the ankles. Just like us. So why are some of these people acting like what we wear is strange?

Muslim women are constantly shamed, judged and scrutinised and don’t even get me started on Black Muslim women. We often face an added layer of disrespect, not only from wider society, but sadly from within our own Muslim communities too from both Muslim men and women. And whenever we express ourselves it’s dismissed or disproportionately attacked! It’s so draining

its really the same in the crafting/knitting community because I know if I removed my hijab and posted like the average white woman, I would go through the roof. Eventhough the hobby is the same, they still would rather prefer the „white“ version of me

Yes, I’ve been thinking of this lately. My thought is regarding women’s rights, when anti-Islam people hear about the rights Islam has given us women, they either deny its existence entirely out of ignorance or they just say “bare minimum btw”, however, when those same exact rights are given under the name of feminism, suddenly no one calls it the bare minimum even though it is, no one challenges it whatsoever.

It’s a truly strange phenomenon. The west has constructed the narrative around itself as the antithesis to the east and Islam . There can be no room for us in their conversations. We only exist as cautionary tales or markers of western superiority. Any example that proves that we are more like them than different or that we can actively participate in society in ways that aren’t strange or foreign to them shakes that narrative. As well, they don’t want to credit us for anything, the products of our culture and religion are only useful when they can be stripped from us, sanitized for western consumption and distanced from Islam.
