clarification: the US sanitized the identities of former Nzis, gave them citizenship, hundreds of billions of dollars, awards, public recognition, security clearances, and long careers deep inside the empire. the soviets punished certain nzis (besides the ones executed, put in gulags, or died in POW camps) by forcing them to labor in secret, never as leaders, citizens, or without direct Soviet supervision, as prisoners with slightly better rations. .
