I'm from ga and was against flock cameras until yesterday when I watched two people in a pickup truck drive right by me and go to my brother's residence and load up a generator and drive away before I could do anything less than an hour later my sheriff's department had the truck pulled over and we got the generator back and luckily I didn't have a chance to confront them because they had a handgun

Technology capable of this level of surveillance should at minimum require a real warrant based on probable cause before it is used to track a specific individual. We have already seen problems in this country involving the improper use of surveillance authorities, including FISA warrants. That history shows why simply saying there is a warrant process does not eliminate the possibility of abuse. You are also not addressing the Bluetooth capabilities associated with these camera and surveillance systems. This potentially goes far beyond simply reading a license plate. Bluetooth enabled devices can include phones, smartwatches, earbuds and safe driving or telematics devices. If these systems are capable of detecting, recording or associating identifiers from those devices, the public deserves to know exactly what is being collected and how that information can be used. The concern becomes much greater if those identifiers can be connected to an individual and used to follow that person after they leave their vehicle. At that point this is no longer just a camera recording where a vehicle traveled. It potentially becomes a way of tracking a person’s movements through the electronic devices they carry. The public deserves to know whether this information is being collected, how long it is stored, who can access it and what level of judicial authorization is required before it can be used to track a specific person. And we also need to acknowledge the history of this department and the conduct of officers under its command. These concerns do not exist in a vacuum. Over the years there have been publicly reported incidents and allegations involving officers entering private property or people’s backyards without adequate legal justification, officers themselves being involved in DUI incidents, including incidents that did not involve alcohol but instead involved allegations of drug use, and situations where individuals were accused before enough investigative work was done, only to find out later that the facts did not support what was originally alleged. There have also been problems and disputes involving property being taken and not returned.
