@the_alpha_unseen: I used to think love was something you either felt or you didn’t. I don’t believe that anymore. I think love is choosing someone. Over and over again. Especially when life isn’t exciting. When things get hard. When you’re tired. When you’re frustrated. When the butterflies aren’t there. When someone else gives you attention. When walking away would be easier. Because the second you stop choosing each other, something starts to die. Maybe not all at once. You still sleep in the same bed. Still raise the kids. Still go to dinner. Still say “I love you.” But somewhere along the way, you stop protecting the us. You start choosing your ego. Your resentment. Your distractions. Someone else’s attention. Yourself over the relationship, instead of yourselves within it. And eventually you realize the relationship didn’t end the day someone left. It ended when you stopped choosing each other. That’s what I understand about love now. Love isn’t finding someone you’ll never struggle with. It’s finding someone who, even through the struggle, keeps turning toward you. And you keep turning toward them. Again. And again. And again. Because forever isn’t one choice you make standing at an altar.
