Your so cool, I really strive to become a aquarist or wildlife technician like you!! My question is that if i go to HKU (Hong Kong University) and major in marine biology would i be able to become a aquarist or wildlife tech?

this!! i started off as a receptionist at an ER vet clinic, then moved up to a vet nurse, and now i work in a mixed practice where i see cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and birds! i interned at a birds of prey facility throughout all of this and they opened a lot of doors for me!

maybe I should post about my journey 🤔 I too, took the "scenic route" and I love sharing how there's many ways to get in this field

what kind of function did you apply for at your local zoo? 😝 I would love to work with animals but I study psychology rn and have almost no previous jobs or degrees that have to do with wildlife

I love this so much! I myself have a marine biology degree but there are so many resources and opportunities that allow anyone to get into the animal field without a degree!

For volunteering what would you recommend prioritizing? Getting hands on experience or a foot in the door? I've been trying to get a job at my local zoo and everytime I hear nothing back for even an interview even as my experience increases (though they also only hire part time in the summer so it gets more competitive). I'm thinking about volunteering at the zoo right before the summer to try to get in, but the zoo doesn't allow volunteers to be hands on with the animals unlike a raptor rehab I have volunteered at for 8 months now where I can do practically every task and handle every species. My experience goes past this with other kinds of animals research wise, but I also teach at a museum, hold a scuba license, and am a college student, but I'm not sure what else to try!
