I think, consider that dating is haram, the whole whole mahr discussion between two people figuring out if they want to marry, is like a filter. Because a man counter offering you or trying to tell you what to ask or what to do with your mahr is an indication of HOW he will provide for you. And vice versa. If you can’t afford just say no I can’t and don’t marry her 🤷♀️. I had a relatively high amount, but comparative to the woman on my fathers side, because I was giving up that anount to marry him. He said okay🤷♀️and that’s how he provides🥰

this is so true, i don’t understand how they don’t see it! i always said i wanted a high mahr, rich man, etc but when i met the loml i didn’t ask for that stuff. i asked for the average amount in my community at the time and something that he could afford. because he’s a good man!! when a woman actually wants you, she will ask for something that’s possible from the man
