If the judge tells me go back and try again after sitting that long in the trial and then deliberations, forcing a verdict, I’d be pissed and I’m not changing my mind. Hung jury it is🤷♀️I’m not going against my belief and I’m not choosing something I don’t agree with just because the judge wants a verdict.

This isn’t simply “guilty or not guilty.” The jury must unanimously choose among first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter, not guilty by reason of insanity, or not guilty. Jurors could reach different combinations of conclusions about the evidence and the appropriate charge. For example, some might favor first-degree murder while others favor second-degree murder; some might support manslaughter while others favor acquittal; or some might find the defendant not guilty by reason of insanity while others reject that defense. Even if jurors agree the defendant caused the death, disagreements about the evidence or applicable charge can produce a hung jury. Five possible verdicts with the end goal of all 12 agreeing to 1 verdict.
