When someone asks who you voted for and your response is, “Let’s not make this political,” that alone can say more than you realize. There’s nothing complicated about saying, “I voted for Trump,” or “I didn’t vote for Trump.” There’s a word called accountability. If you’re willing to stand behind the way you voted and accept responsibility for that decision, then at least you’re being honest. It’s when you avoid the question while facing the consequences of the election, it makes it difficult for others to understand where you stand. People genuinely want to support farmers and others who are struggling, but accountability matters. When you refuse to accept accountability for your choices and still expect everyone to support you, it becomes difficult to have empathy for your struggles. You can’t expect people to ignore the role your own choices may have played while refusing to acknowledge those choices. Stand by your vote or be honest enough to admit that you may have made a mistake.
