I swear 3am turns me into a completely different person. During the day I can handle things pretty well. Baby crying? Okay, let’s figure it out. Short nap? Annoying but whatever. Cluster feeding? We’ll survive. Spit up on the shirt I JUST changed into? Of course 😂 But give me those exact same problems at 3:14am and suddenly my brain is like: we are failing the baby will never sleep again everyone else has figured this out except us and also maybe I should google 46 things right now 😭 It’s actually ridiculous lol. A few nights ago I was standing by the window holding my baby after another wakeup. The house was completely silent. My husband was asleep. The street was dark except for a couple random porch lights. And I could feel that familiar anxiety starting. Not even panic exactly. Just that heavy nighttime feeling where everything suddenly feels harder than it did two hours ago. I remember looking outside thinking, “there is NO way I’m the only person doing this right now.” Obviously logically I knew I wasn’t 😂 Babies exist everywhere. Moms exist everywhere. Somebody somewhere is ALWAYS awake with a baby. But knowing that and actually FEELING it are two totally different things. So I grabbed my phone while I was rocking her and opened this app I had found. There’s a map on it that shows moms who are awake right now. And omg. There were yellow lights EVERYWHERE. 🥹 Hundreds of them. I zoomed out. More lights. Moved the map. More moms. And something about physically SEEING them made my anxiety drop almost immediately. Because every little yellow dot meant there was another woman somewhere doing her version of exactly what I was doing. One might be nursing. One might be pumping in the dark while watching Netflix with subtitles because her husband is sleeping 😂 One might be changing a blowout for the second time tonight. One might be bouncing on a yoga ball whispering “please sleep please sleep please sleep” like she’s performing some kind of ancient ritual 😭😂 One might just be sitting there crying because she’s exhausted and tonight is hard. And suddenly my little dark room didn’t feel quite so isolated. That’s the part of postpartum I really wasn’t prepared for. Everyone talks about being tired. Nobody really explained how much your brain can mess with you when it’s dark, you haven’t slept properly in weeks, and you’re responsible for this tiny person you love more than anything. Things that feel manageable at 1pm can feel MASSIVE at 3am. You question yourself more. You worry more. You feel lonelier. At least I do. And sometimes I don’t need another tip. I don’t need to know the “perfect” wake window. I don’t need someone telling me to sleep when the baby sleeps because PLEASE 😭😂 I just need to know I’m not the only one awake. That somewhere across town there’s another lamp glowing beside a rocking chair. Somewhere across the country there’s a mom warming a bottle. Somewhere across the world there’s a woman looking at the exact same ridiculous hour on her phone thinking, “how is it only 3:14???” We don’t know each other. We probably never will. But we’re doing this together in this really strange invisible way. 🥹❤️ Eventually my baby fell asleep against me. And normally that’s when I start the terrifying process of deciding whether she’s ACTUALLY asleep or newborn fake asleep 😂 But that night I just sat there for another minute looking at those little lights. My house was still quiet. I was still exhausted. Morning was still hours away. Nothing had technically changed. Except I didn’t feel like I was the only mom left awake anymore. And sometimes at 3am, that’s enough. ❤️🥹 #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
