@sarahcaudleart: Story time: When I first got started as an artist, an established and well known gallery manager approached me to be part of his new art agency. I couldn’t believe it! 😆 And only a few weeks after signing on, he called me with my first project! Despite my excitement, I turned it down. Then again, and again. Why? Because he was asking me to paint in a different style and copy other artists for these works. Could I do it? Of course. Did I need the money? Yes. So why did I say no? I was a brand new artist still growing my own style, but | knew I had to stay true to myself. Not only did I want to grow a strong brand with my own style, but I also knew how wrong it was to directly copy someone else’s work. Soon after, I let him know this agency wasn’t the right fit for me and I wanted to end my contract early. He told me I was stupid, didn’t know what I was doing, and the one that stung most “would never make it as a professional artist.” Well jokes on him cause pretty sure his agency died out soon after and my art took off! And the best part?...his gallery begged me to carry my work a few years later! I said no! 10 years later I’m still here doing what I love!
