@healingwithchels: An emotional flashback with CPTSD is when your nervous system reacts as if you’re back in the past… even when you’re safe in the present. You may not experience visual flashbacks, but suddenly feel the same fear, shame, helplessness, rejection, or abandonment you felt during trauma. Your body remembers, even when your mind doesn’t recognize what’s happening 🤍
Emotional flashbacks are such a awful part of CPTSD so hard to deal with

We with CPTSD can live in emotionally inverted states. What is normal and healthy can trigger emotional flashbacks. e.g., Seeing moms playing with their kids at a park is happy and healthy for most. For me the sight brings me back to the moment my sociopathic mother tried to murder me when I was three.

My emotional flashbacks lead to horrible blood pressure spikes that last for a couple of days. It’s leading to my quitting my profession. Any ideas on how to make this response go away?

Flashbacks are more feeling than an image for me. Seeing a fire truck, hearing a siren crushes me with terror, fear, anxiety. Even now after all these years of therapy and healing it still scares me to death.

I wish I could just be happy. My life technically has never been better but I can’t see it any differently. I feel like everyday I’m fighting myself to not ruin everything

Emotional flashbacks are rough! Sometimes I don’t know which is worse, the emotional flashbacks or the visual ones.

Because why does just a random thought about one thing turn into a thought about one of my triggers, and suddenly I’m right there again feeling panicky, anxious, and heartbroken all over again. Why why why

For anyone who has ever wondered why a seemingly small moment created such a huge emotional reaction, you deserve curiosity and compassion, not shame 🤍

I was a first responder at a serious car accident. I had a 5 year old die in my hands. I tried so hard to save him. His 15 year old sister died 2 days later. I was responsible for informing both mum and dad that their beloved boy had died. Flashbacks haunts me daily. The guilt and shame I feel knowing I couldn't save the little boy is unbearable.
