Prussia is so tuff
Christmas gravy shoppers… please see this. 🦃 Bisto Best Turkey Gravy has “made with real meat juices” written on the front with a picture of a turkey — but when you turn it around, the first ingredient is dried glucose syrup. So this product is MOSTLY made up of dried glucose syrup which is sugar, followed by additives and flavourings, and then way down the list… 1.5% turkey powder. That’s what they’re calling “real meat juices.” It’s so misleading, and it should not be allowed. If you’re buying your gravy in the supermarket, you’re far better off going for one of the ready-made pouches. Yes, they cost more, but they’re made with actual stock and the kind of ingredients you’d use yourself at home if making homemade gravy. They’re not perfect, but they are worlds apart from the Bisto stuff, and are much more like proper gravy. But if you can - learning to make your own gravy is such a game changer. When you take the turkey out of the oven, those bits stuck to the tray are pure gold — scrape them up, add homemade stock if you have it or a bit of bouillon (Dr. Coy’s is my favourite) with some boiling water, maybe a splash of white wine, and whisk away over a low heat. If you like it thicker, add a little cornflour. Sieve at the end and you’ve got the most gorgeous gravy, full of flavour and far cheaper than buying a pouch of gravy in the supermarket. What do you think? Let me know in the comments ❤️ #sophiesswaps #cleverswaps #foodlabels
