@chrislovesjulia: The overhead light has its place, but if it’s the only light you’re using in a room, it’s probably doing more harm than good. We love layering light throughout a room instead—sconces to light the walls, lamps to create pools of light, candles for a little glow, and, when we can, the fireplace too. Suddenly the room has depth, warmth, and a completely different feeling once the sun goes down. Try turning off the big light tonight and see what happens.
