If you look at the trees in the close-up video from the boater you can clearly see the trees bobbing and swaying which would indicate that they are susceptible to the motion of the waves and water currents. So surely it is exactly what multiple people have said…it’s a massive group of trees that grew and anchored themselves on a pile of dead trees and debris. As they grew, the roots held everything together. The high water level allowed it to float, and the wind blew it across the lake.

I’m guessing landslide caused from excess water, root system tightly woven and soil clumped together on top of a clay layer or something the roots couldn’t grip deeper into. Wood floats, water and tides wash away dirt among the roots, trees fall away from each other and sink. As more trees fall away roots hold less and more fall away til all are gone. Just a hypothesis. Those trees in video are bobbing with the waves. Definitely floating at surface rather than anchored to anything substantial deeper down. But idk
