@meghannmcuniff: Duane "Keffe D" Davis said he plans to appeal his conviction for murdering Tupac Shakur after a judge scheduled his sentencing for Oct. 13. A jury in Clark County, Nevada, deliberated about three hours today before convicting Davis of a single count of murder for his role in Shakur's Sept. 7, 1996, shooting in Las Vegas. Before trial, Davis had been eligible to leave jail on $750,000 bail that he never posted, but Judge Carli Kierny said today he's now in custody with no bail. Davis raised his hand after Kierny adjourned court. "Excuse me," he said. "Yes, sir," Kierny said. "I'd like my stuff back: my computers, all the phones, everything. And I would like to appeal this matter, Davis said. "Of course there will be an appeal, but that happens after sentencing. Then ... you can talk about evidence that needs to be returned," Kierny said. Members of Shakur's family hugged prosecutors Marc DiGiacomo and Binu Palal in the courtroom after the verdict. Prosecutors were seeking a gang enhancement against Davis, but they dropped it because everyone recently realized the jury would need to decide separately and their witness, former Compton gang detective Robert Ladd, wasn't available this evening. Prosecutors said in trial that Shakur was murdered as part of a feud between the South Side Crips and the Mob Piru gang, and to retaliate for Shakur attacking Orlando Anderson earlier in the night at the MGM Grand casino in connection with a gang brawl at the Lakewood Mall in California weeks earlier. Davis told police Sean "Puffy" Combs offered $1 million for killing Shakur during a meeting at Greenblatt's deli on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, but he never received it. Davis repeatedly spoke publicly about his role in Shakur’s murder in interviews and in a memoir called Compton Street Legend. Prosecutors say he supplied the gun and was in the white Cadillac when Anderson, who was his nephew, fired the fatal shots. Anderson died in 1998. Davis has been in jail since his arrest on Sept. 29, 2023. His statements were used against him in trial. #law #crime #court

He thought that agreement all those years ago protected him for life. Now he’s about to spend the rest of his life in prison. What really sucks is that we haven’t enjoyed Tupac as an artist and actor for all these years because of that day in 96. This doesn’t bring him back but now everyone in the Lac has been held to account. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

if there was any evidence on any of his property, the state isn't giving that back, as it would be used in the appeals process, just as it was during his original case. the state will keep that in evidence until the end of time.
