Used to be a tech in PCU. Had a pt on bipap, also in for aspiration pneumonia. Could only have thickened liquids. Family member decided to take pt's mask off and give them a sip of juice. They choked, sats plummeted to the 40s. Pt was made comfort care a few days later.

we had a patient who was already in very bad shape the doctor caught them pouring soup in the tube that goes to her lungs she already had a very bad ling infection 🥲

I walked into my quadriplegic patient’s boyfriend shooting her up with heroine. Later found out she was pregnant, because he was selling her for drugs. Mind you, she lived in a nursing home 😬

im a carer in a nursing home and i walked into a residents room the other day after a visitor had left and my resident was eating liquorice . . . . hes only ment to be eating minced food 😑

had a family get the patient a soda the patient was npo for dyspaghia from stroke... pt aspirated ended up vented and passed away. The amount of anger i had when i saw them helping em drink it.

Omg I've had a family member who was a nurse and she kept silencing the pump so I had no idea it was alarming, which was a BIG problem because it was levo. So I only noticed when their BP was alarming for being 70/42. I had them removed and not allowed back

Have encountered numerous people who think being put NPO is “too harsh” or “too mean”??????? One case a child died on the table because the mother fed him scrambled eggs and he aspirated them on the table

I watched a patient rip out her central venous catheter (for dialysis) from her chest, mind you this was after I told her that she was not allowed to CHEW through her blood lines while on dialysis 🥴 MA’AM

Sometimes I get frustrated when healthcare professionals have this kind of baseline assumption that I might be an idiot but then I hear stories like this and I’m like ok yeah probably safer to assume idiot until pleasantly surprised bc what do u MEAN UR TRYING TO FORCE FEED AN INTUBATED PATIENT A FUCKING CHEESEBURGER??????

Had a pt who had been aspirating for months, was obviously NPO. Wife asked if he could still eat because “even if some of it goes into his lungs at least some of it will go into his stomach too and a little bit of nutrition is better than nothing” 😭😭😭 he died the next day 💀💀💀

We had a patient who disconnected his blood transfusion and drank it like a caprisun, recently learned he did this so often, they ended up putting him in the nurses station for transfusions, lovely man otherwise tho
