MPs warn that the government is ‘prolonging a significant risk to patient safety’ after stalling a nationwide ban on high-risk Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedures. The warning follows a damning report published in February by the Women and Equalities Committee (WEC). The cross-party group of MPs demanded an immediate high-street ban on liquid BBLs and breast augmentations after hearing horrifying testimonies of procedures being carried out in living rooms, hotel rooms, and commercial salons. Seven months on, the government has yet to officially respond. The WEC maintains that these procedures pose a severe, immediate threat to patient safety unless performed by practitioners with specialist medical training and board certification. Campaign groups like Save Face have strongly backed the MPs. The organisation reveals it has supported more than 1,200 women suffering from severe BBL complications. Of those victims, more than half developed sepsis and required emergency hospital admission, while another 40% needed extensive corrective surgery or ongoing district nurse care. Reflecting on the government's silence, WEC member Christine Jardine MP warned that the lack of regulation is actively putting lives at risk. “It is clear that high-risk procedures are still being carried out by unqualified practitioners in unsafe settings.
