My bf did this with me the night I found out (completely alone btw) that my kidney transplant was rejecting and I was having surgery to get a port placed to have plasmapheresis started. I cried all day until he got off work, and he came and laid with me. I know nurses find it cringey or whatever, but when your world is falling apart, you need your person close, not in a chair 2 feet away.

When I was hospitalized for sepsis they hospital made my husband leave the first night I was admitted, neither of us slept, he came back first thing the next morning and when night shift came on they told him as long as he wasn’t in the way and didn’t cause any issues he could stay with me…. Well the night nurse told the day shift nurse about it and the day shift let him lay in my bed with me as long as they could access my iv and wires and that’s where he stayed for the following 2 days 😂

As a nurse , i will never judge if you do this. Its a scary time when your loved one is in the hospital and as long as i can do what i need to do i dont care . As a chronically ill person/ partner of a chronically ill person i have personally done this and its so healing
