2 years ago I attended a college course about climate change mostly because I have heard it's extremely easy to pass. It was a weekly lecture with 12 unique guest speaker. Every single of them had given up on the idea that humanity will exist after 2100

fun fact, renewable energy is actually not only the answer for climate change, but for the energy crisis. in the long term, fossil fuel energy is never going to be nearly as cheap as solar, wind and hydro, not even to mention nuclear, and oil is way more important for industrial development and transport. it’s the government lobbyists that are pushing this obsolete energy source that’s rotting out the planet and nobody’s doing anything because nobody believes they can do anything. you could start a political party, a radio show, hell, even a podcast, but they want to make you believe that you’re powerless so they can get away with this.

Its inevitable, people will never unite under this problem. As he said in the video humanity wont ever wake up one day and say ”Let’s fix this’. Which is what i think sucks most. All you can realistically do is try and reach out and explain the problem. But most wont listen or disagree

Studied sustainable development and was encouraged to start anti depressants in the first lecture. I thought he was joking. Anyway, he wasn’t. Dropped out because we are in a dire state and I couldn’t cope to learn anymore about that. Now I’m watching what they said should be happening “worst case scenario” in 2050 happen today

As you yourself said, humanity is extremely good at reacting to disasters, not at preventing them. I believe that humanity will indeed be able to successfully deal with the disasters that are coming.Would it be better if we prevented them? Yes. But that's not what we do. But don't worry. Humanity will succeed even if it's at the cost of millions of deaths.

this isn't helpful. we have already avoided the worst case scenarios of 3+ degrees C of warming. we're on track currently for 2.6 by the end of the century. not good but not at all fatal. there is no apocalypse. there is no moment where we go from everything being fine to all of us dying. it's a gradient. a world that is 2.6 warmer is a worse world, a harder world to live in, but it's still livable. every 0.1 degree we reduce gives us a less harsh future. throwing our hands up and saying we lost is a disservice to our descendents. it's condemning them to a harder life because we thought it was all or nothing. every bit counts. so stop this doomerism, it just feeds the climate crisis more

This is what was not considered: Billions of people believe 'god' will stop it OR that it will usher in the 'end times' and they all go to live with jesus. THUS...a huge portion simply do not care!

During my undergrad in environmental science, the more I learned and researched, the more despair set in. I made substantial changes to my lifestyle and set long-term goals for the work I wanted to do. Seven years later, with a master’s in natural resource management now finished, I’ve been out of work for over a year, living through another record-breaking hot summer. Climate change is a hyperobject, too vast and diffuse to fully grasp, which makes it that much harder to shake the feeling that things are hopeless. Psychologically, we’re not built to handle something like this.
