@hannahfeikema: One of the VERY ugly truths of this industry….THE “HUSTLE” DOESN’T STOP! It gets REFINED and SHIFTED but it…never…goes…away! If you’ve been in the industry more than 10 years, I’d love to hear your take! #salonowner #hairsalon #hairstylist #SmallBusiness #entrepreneur

I've never closed my books. People move away, their budgets and availability change... there's always room to meet someone new ❤️

I never say that im ‘not accepting’ new clients but at this moment I’m so booked and I’m soooo tired and working so hard to just get in my regular clients. So now what?

Sarah Harrop :
I stopped accepting new clients when it's becoming too difficult for my loyal clientele to book. Once my schedule starts slowing down from losing people to moves/financial situations, I open my books for a period time. I like to take care of my loyal clients before new ones

You need to make yourself available ! If someone needs an early appt then come in early. I have always accommodated my clients and I was very successful. Remember they are your bread and butter!

it USED to be stylists would only do this when they wanted to retire or reduce their hours😂 its wild to me that stylists who are young do this.. just raise your prices and keep building....

I understand what you’re saying. But I’ve been a stylist for 24 years. I don’t take new clients because I’m completely full. And rarely lose clients. Sounds like people need to focus on customer service.

I feel like even if that is the case, it’s easy enough if someone reaches out to politely tell them your books are full and you aren’t looking into taking anyone new at the moment, and potentially direct them to someone else. That’s so much better than an immediate turn off when you hit someone’s page, this job is about the clients in the end

100%! I’ve been doing hair for 25 years, I’m always taking on new clients, I’ve learned this very fast that “I’m not taking new clients “ is a killer to stylists, nail techs, lash artists. Love hearing you

11.5 years in and never “close” my books or say I’m “a specialist” in anything either. I feel like that kills your business too

I’m on maternity leave for 5 months and sick of people messaging me. I’ve never not accepted new clients but right now is about me and my family. I can rebuild later

Not in this industry, but it’s so interesting to me how people think they can make huge money hardly working.

I agree like 98%!! 😂 The other 2% is that I think it’s okay to maybe onlyyy accept new referrals for a period of time. Like, if you have young kids at home and choose to work fewer days/hours, and someone is referred to you, they already know and understand your availability going in! But I agree 100% to not put “not accepting new clients” all over your pages for sure!
