I’m at once glad she was offered a decent plea deal and pissed that the prosecutor even brought a case against her.

prosecution says she followed him to the room. Her side is he was beating her head off the counter and she grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the leg. Also, she had called the cops on him like 50 times and they only came out 5. I think she also had a protective order against him.

That was another ridiculous case. She had a restraining order against him. She couldn’t take the initial plea because it would have prevented her to work as a nurse. She had no other way to support herself. I believe she had called the police on him that day. Double check that. Is threats against her life were well documented by police records.

Apparently she is a nurse so they charged her with murder because, "she knew what she was doing by stabbing him in the arterty". #TeamKeisha

I dislike that they charged her at all given it was self defense, but understand why she took the plea deal.

She shouldn't have had to take a plea. It was clearly self defense.

I live in Chicago and missed that whole story. She clearly defended herself! She had the police reports as a paper trail. I’ll have to look more into it. Thanks for always educating us.

I followed it. Charges never should have been bought in my opinion. She couldn’t have taken the first deal because she would have been a felon and not able to work in the field she was working in. Also innocent people take deals frequently because juries are unpredictable and life sentences would be tragic for innocent people

her statement to the press after taking the plea deal is so heartbreaking. she deserved better! all she had were shit options to choose from & she had to take the most realistically obtainable shit option available to her

WHEN WHEN will this end for women. When will will be safe? I know a woman who stabbed her ex out of self defense and she went to prison for a long time. Never mind he nearly killed her.

yes, good for her. glad that she isn't doing time but frustrating that we are still trying victims for self advocacy. she shouldn't have been on trial.

Good for her for defending herself against this horrible man who surely would have killed her. Can’t believe she is being prosecuted

Oh I initially thought self defense but if she got a knife after and found him in another room…. That’s guilty

Im not 100% but I think her account was that the attack moved to the bedroom but she was able to grab a defense and she didnt intent to end him. She also had a restraining order on him.

You know the script you need to write. I knew a federal prosecutor very well. He informed me they chose the cases they could win to make their careers and gain notoriety. They didn’t choose the hard cases. They chose the ones they could win. That is not seeking justice and a safer society. That’s using the system to make yourself famous. I asked him why would you not go after hard cases. He said, “I wanted to have a distinguished career of convictions.” That turns our entire system on its head
