A man says he got a call from his wife asking for his credit card because she had forgotten her wallet and needed to pay for gas. Her voice sounded almost exactly right. The timing, tone and cadence were close enough that he says he probably would have believed it. Except his wife was sitting right next to him. And she drives a Tesla. He stayed on the call for a while and suspects it may have been some kind of Al voice clone or live voice filter. That part has not been verified, but the bigger issue is very real. Voice cloning is getting good enough that scammers can copy someone from short clips posted online, then use that voice in a live call. For years, hearing your partner, parent or child on the phone was enough to trust that it was them. That assumption is getting much weaker. If someone you know suddenly calls asking for money, card details or account access, call them back yourself on their usual number. A private family password may sound excessive, but we may be getting to the point where it makes sense. This is going to make phone scams much harder to spot.
